Bei der Berechnung der Determinante einer 3x3-Matrix hilft folgendes Schema:
Die ersten beiden Spalten der Matrix werden noch einmal neben die Matrix geschrieben.
Die Einträge auf den Diagonalen von oben links nach unten rechts werden multipliziert und die Ergebnisse addiert. a 11 ⋅ a 22 ⋅ a 33 + a 12 ⋅ a 23 ⋅ a 31 + a 13 ⋅ a 21 ⋅ a 32 {\displaystyle a_{11}\cdot a_{22}\cdot a_{33}+a_{12}\cdot a_{23}\cdot a_{31}+a_{13}\cdot a_{21}\cdot a_{32}}
Die Einträge auf den Diagonalen von unten links nach oben rechts werden multipliziert und die Ergebnisse subtrahiert. − a 31 ⋅ a 22 ⋅ a 13 − a 32 ⋅ a 23 ⋅ a 11 − a 33 ⋅ a 21 ⋅ a 12 {\displaystyle -a_{31}\cdot a_{22}\cdot a_{13}-a_{32}\cdot a_{23}\cdot a_{11}-a_{33}\cdot a_{21}\cdot a_{12}}
det A = a 11 ⋅ a 22 ⋅ a 33 + a 12 ⋅ a 23 ⋅ a 31 + a 13 ⋅ a 21 ⋅ a 32 − a 31 ⋅ a 22 ⋅ a 13 − a 32 ⋅ a 23 ⋅ a 11 − a 33 ⋅ a 21 ⋅ a 12 {\displaystyle \det A=a_{11}\cdot a_{22}\cdot a_{33}+a_{12}\cdot a_{23}\cdot a_{31}+a_{13}\cdot a_{21}\cdot a_{32}-a_{31}\cdot a_{22}\cdot a_{13}-a_{32}\cdot a_{23}\cdot a_{11}-a_{33}\cdot a_{21}\cdot a_{12}}

Sei A {\displaystyle \left.A\right.} eine Matrix mit n Spalten und n Zeilen und a m , k {\displaystyle \left.a_{m,k}\right.} die Einträge von A {\displaystyle \left.A\right.} (m=Zeile, k=Spalte). Sei ferner A m , k {\displaystyle \left.A_{m,k}\right.} die Matrix, die aus A {\displaystyle \left.A\right.} entsteht, wenn man die m-te Zeile und die k-te Spalte weg lässt. Also z.B.

Anwendung: Kreis durch drei Punkte
Bearbeiten
( x 1 − x M ) 2 + ( y 1 − y M ) 2 = r 2 {\displaystyle \left(x_{1}-x_{M}\right)^{2}+\left(y_{1}-y_{M}\right)^{2}=r^{2}}
( x 2 − x M ) 2 + ( y 2 − y M ) 2 = r 2 {\displaystyle \left(x_{2}-x_{M}\right)^{2}+\left(y_{2}-y_{M}\right)^{2}=r^{2}}
( x 3 − x M ) 2 + ( y 3 − y M ) 2 = r 2 {\displaystyle \left(x_{3}-x_{M}\right)^{2}+\left(y_{3}-y_{M}\right)^{2}=r^{2}}
A = + det ( x 1 y 1 1 x 2 y 2 1 x 3 y 3 1 ) {\displaystyle A=+\det {\begin{pmatrix}x_{1}&y_{1}&1\\x_{2}&y_{2}&1\\x_{3}&y_{3}&1\end{pmatrix}}}
B = − det ( x 1 2 + y 1 2 y 1 1 x 2 2 + y 2 2 y 2 1 x 3 2 + y 3 2 y 3 1 ) {\displaystyle B=-\det {\begin{pmatrix}x_{1}^{2}+y_{1}^{2}&y_{1}&1\\x_{2}^{2}+y_{2}^{2}&y_{2}&1\\x_{3}^{2}+y_{3}^{2}&y_{3}&1\end{pmatrix}}}
C = + det ( x 1 2 + y 1 2 x 1 1 x 2 2 + y 2 2 x 2 1 x 3 2 + y 3 2 x 3 1 ) {\displaystyle C=+\det {\begin{pmatrix}x_{1}^{2}+y_{1}^{2}&x_{1}&1\\x_{2}^{2}+y_{2}^{2}&x_{2}&1\\x_{3}^{2}+y_{3}^{2}&x_{3}&1\end{pmatrix}}}
D = − det ( x 1 2 + y 1 2 x 1 y 1 x 2 2 + y 2 2 x 2 y 2 x 3 2 + y 3 2 x 3 y 3 ) {\displaystyle D=-\det {\begin{pmatrix}x_{1}^{2}+y_{1}^{2}&x_{1}&y_{1}\\x_{2}^{2}+y_{2}^{2}&x_{2}&y_{2}\\x_{3}^{2}+y_{3}^{2}&x_{3}&y_{3}\end{pmatrix}}}
Ergibt sich die Gleichung:
A ( x 2 + y 2 ) + B x + C y + D = 0 {\displaystyle A(x^{2}+y^{2})+Bx+Cy+D=0} Mittels geeigneter quadratischer Ergänzung folgt die Kreisgleichung
( x − x M ) 2 + ( y − y M ) 2 = r 2 {\displaystyle \left(x-x_{M}\right)^{2}+\left(y-y_{M}\right)^{2}=r^{2}} Mit x M = − B 2 A {\displaystyle x_{M}={\frac {-B}{2A}}} , y M = − C 2 A {\displaystyle y_{M}={\frac {-C}{2A}}} und r = B 2 + C 2 4 A 2 − D A {\displaystyle r={\sqrt {{\frac {B^{2}+C^{2}}{4A^{2}}}-{\frac {D}{A}}}}} .
Liegen die Punkte auf einer Geraden, so ist A = 0 {\displaystyle A=0} .
